Spring is in the air. The weather is getting warmer. And I've put away my galoshes. It's time to dust off the bike(s) and get out riding. For those that ride all year, it's time to clean the winter crud off and shine up your ride for summer.
SORCE has been busy over the winter of 2011-12. We have a new dedicated Executive comprised of super-committed volunteers helping to bring mountain biking opportunities to you across Surrey. We've expanded our mandate, looking across the City of Surrey for opportunities to get engaged with the City on new park projects and a long-term vision for recreational off road cycling in Surrey.
We're building a new bike park! Check out our progress on our Facebook site on work at Invergarry Park in north Surrey. Like South Surrey Bike Park is a small jewel for riding in the south of the City, we'll soon have a matching jewel in the north. Invergarry Park will include dirt jumps, pump track, DH trail, XC loop and skills area and will be suitable for all type of riding and all levels of riders. A huge shout out to Derek Kost and Jordan Proctor who have personally made Invergarry a reality, advocating tirelessly for 3 years. And we're happy to bring back ESP Enterprises, after a huge success rebuilding the DJ's at South Surrey in 2011, to also work on this project.
SORCE will be hosting a number of events and programs throughout 2012, including the famous Junk Yard Dog and fall cyclocross races (where we've teamed up with Darryl Evans Racing), Dirt Jams at both South Surrey and Invergarry, multiple 'dig days' for volunteers to help keep our trails in prime condition, and back by popular demand youth riding clinics (in conjunction with the City of Surrey).
So get involved! Follow us on Facebook, forward this email to your friends and family who are interested in biking. SORCE needs as many people following us (email lists, members, Facebook friends) as possible in order to effectively carry the voice of mountain biking with the City.Stay tuned, more communications to come but always the best and latest information is on Facebook.
Cheers, Dale
