Executive Team
Dale Tiessen, President
Dale has been active in cycling since his youth, when he spent countless hours BMX'ing around South Surrey with friends. While in university, Dale was active in XC racing but always more for fun that real competition. He has also dabbled in road riding and some triathlon, but the dirt keeps calling his name. Now he spreads his love of the dirt across XC riding, downhill and BMX racing. Dale has lived most of his life in the South Surrey peninsula and is currently married to a great gal also with an affinity for dirt. His son is a pint-sized mini-me of Dale, also inheriting a love of mountain biking and BMX. Dale's family has been SORCE members for some time but in 2011 he decided it was time to get more involved and give something back to the community by participating on the SORCE Executive. In his spare time, Dale is a sales and marketing exec in the healthcare industry.
Garvey Allisen, Vice President
Garvey joined Sorce in 2001, taking on the concession responsibilities for Bike Fest and The Junk Yard Dog. And the “Garvey” Burger was born. Garvey took over the presidency of Sorce in 2008 from Jim Richardson, and was president for a second term in 2009. Currently, Garvey holds the position of Vice President of Sorce. Garvey also sits on the Urban Forest Advisory Committee, currently tasked with finding the best way to deal with the root rot situation in the bike park. Garvey leans toward cross country riding, and also road bikes. Garvey is the senior Account Manager for a small company that provides IT services to small business.
Jim Richardson, Secretary Treasurer and Founder
Jim worked with Brian Lane during the initial trail building in the South Surrey Bike Park in 1998 and founded SORCE in 2000 to restart the project. During his tenure as president from 2000-2008 he organized and attended over 80 trail days and spearheaded several youth clinics and camps and classic SORCE events like the Bike Fest, Bike Feast, Junkyard Dog, and My First Mountain Bike Race. Jim co-presented at the 2006 World Mountain Bike Conference with the City of Surrey on managing unsanctioned trails and contributed to IMBA’s book “Managing Mountain Biking”. His cycling interests lean towards classic technical XC in places as diverse as Moab and Squamish and of course the good ol’ Bike Park. When he’s not riding Jim works as the Director of Integrated Clinical Care at the UBC Faculty of Dentistry.
